A long stone colonnade in late afternoon, low sun raking between square columns and throwing long shadows across the flagstones.

Portraits and weddings, photographed in and around Excelsior Springs.

Seniors, families, and about a dozen weddings a year. Everything below is what people ask on the phone before they ask anything else: what it costs, when there are dates left, and how long the gallery takes.

Sessions happen outdoors most of the year and in the studio on Main Street from December through February. If you want a specific location, say so when you call and it can usually be arranged.

What a session costs

Senior session

$325

Ninety minutes, two locations within ten miles, up to three outfit changes. Forty edited images, all of them full resolution and yours to print anywhere.

Family session

$275

One hour, one location. Thirty edited images. Groups over eight people add $50 because it takes longer to get everyone's eyes open at once.

Newborn

$300

At your house, in the first three weeks, scheduled loosely because babies are not punctual. Twenty five edited images.

Wedding

From $2,400

Eight hours of coverage, one photographer, four hundred to six hundred edited images. Ten hours and a second shooter is $3,400. Anything smaller than a full day is quoted on the phone, and elopements at the courthouse start at $650.

What you get, and when

  • Two weeks for portraits, six weeks for weddings. If a gallery is going to be late you will hear it from us first.
  • A private online gallery that stays up for one year, with full resolution downloads included in every price above.
  • A print release in writing. Take the files to any lab you like. Prints can also be ordered through the gallery if you would rather not think about it.
  • Ten favorites within two days of a wedding, so there is something to post while the rest is still being edited.
  • Raw files are not released. No photographer in the area does this and it is worth saying plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered.

Booking

Sessions are held with a $100 deposit that comes off the total. Weddings are held with $500 and a signed contract. Call (816) 555-0142 and say the month you have in mind, and you will get a straight answer about whether it is available before anything else is discussed.

The studio is at 123 Main St, Excelsior Springs, open by appointment rather than walk-in, because the camera is usually somewhere else.
